Perseids on the Prairie – IAN/ICEC Summer Workshop

Walking Sticks Adventures and Iowa County Conservation Board are hosting the Iowa Association of Naturalists and Iowa Conservation Education Coalition Summer Workshop. Teachers and naturalists will participate in a host of activities and discussions that connect science, math, history, and current events.
This experiential learning opportunity includes:
- setting up and camping in a tipi on the prairie,
- cooking in historical Dutch ovens using locally sourced foods,
- exploring a local watershed and creek,
- viewing and discussing the Perseid meteor showers
- learning about Iowa archeology and teaching resources

Check in begins noon 7/31/2019. Participants will camp onsite. Workshop concludes noon on 8/2/2019. Bring your own sleeping bags and pillows, lawn chair to sit in, s’mores or other campfire snacks to share, own dinnerware to use. Space to camp in a tipi is limited, so register early. We will have tent camping available to those not in a tipi or participants can bring their own tent. Remember to dress for the weather and activities. We will be going in the creeks on Thursdays. Old hiking boots, tennis shoes etc will work. Bring dry shoes for before and after. $75 materials fee due with registration. Instructional hours = 16.5 hours as outlined in course.
